Three of four grandsons...

Sandy and Aiden were recently in Jacksonville, NC, and I drove up there for a week. Here's a photo Sandy took before I got there. I'll post some of the pictures I took when I have time!

Dinnertime in the Wild

Last summer (2007), we went to this strange seafood restaurant that I'd never heard of and couldn't find again if I tried. The food was ... adequate.

Throughout the restaurant stuffed animals were displayed. As in real animals, once living and breathing, stuffed.

We weren't in the "showpiece" room, although we had some things to look at. The main dining room, however, had rafters filled with vignettes of wildlife. It rivaled anything I'd ever seen at Disney World. (I only saw it on our way out and didn't have the camera at the ready.)

I particularly like the photo of Joe and Amy, even though it's dark and a little blurry, because it's so animated. In fact, many of the photos were dark and blurry because I hate the way that flash often alters the way people actually look. If I turn off the flash, the shutter stays open longer and I have to keep the camera more still than I'm really capable of to get a sharp picture. So, while Alex and Wesley were there, too, I don't have any good shots of them.

I have so many of Talon because I was taking his picture to keep him amused. It's tough to be a bored, hungry child in a restaurant!

This just in!

These photos are hot off the e-mailbox:

Apparently Wesley loves his boots. When Eric was about this age, he had cowboy boots that he utterly adored. He lobbied for them, and once he got them, he wanted to wear them 24/7, even in bed, and even after the soles were flapping. Sadly, I eventually had to sneak them off to the dumpster in the dark of night. When I have time to go hunting through the photo albums, I'll scan a photo of Eric in his boots. Don't hold your breath, though.

Talon is a newly-minted soccer player. Today he scored his first goal!

Good Times in the Oldest City

Last year just about this time, Uncle Don and Arlene came to visit. Michael and Sandy still lived only a few states away, and Alex was living with them. We all got together in St. Augustine. The lunch was good; the company was better. This is one of my favorite photos. I like it so much that I have an 8x10, framed.

Golden Oldie

Michael as a baby, about 34 years ago...
Uncle Ferd took the picture, with a heck of a 35 mm camera, back when most people were still using Instamatics.
Michael was in a very bad mood and was very uncooperative. Great camera? Great photographer? Probably both.

First post

I've been thinking about a personal blog for a while, a place that is not MySpace or Facebook, where I could post the cute grandson photos, etc., and perhaps actually stay in touch with my far-flung family -- except for Uncle Don and Arlene, who know what a computer looks like, but that's as far as they're willing to go with the concept.

First problem: I have no time for this.

Second problem: I can't think of a name for this blog. See first problem.

Third problem: There are no names left. My first EIGHT choices for the URL were unavailable. I was actually kidding with http://lastoneinisarottenegg.blogspot.com/, and after I typed it in, I thought I had wormed myself out of Blogger, but instead it had already established that URL for the blog. Also, see second problem and first problem.

More later, when I solve the first problem. For now, here's a cute grandson photo of Aiden.
